Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube today announced his retirement.

Steube, who has served as sheriff since April 2007, will retire in January 2017 at the end of his current term.

Steube began his law enforcement career with the Longboat Key Police Department in 1976 and joined the sheriff’s office as a deputy in 1978. He worked his way through the ranks, serving in patrol, special investigations, criminal investigations and on the SWAT team.

Steube also has reduced crime in Manatee despite nearly $5 million in budget cuts. Under his leaderships, the sheriff’s office has seen success in combating gangs, the targeting of child sex predators, the implementation of the patrol districts and other programs.
