Manatee County yet to decide storm debris collection

Manatee County issued issued a statement Wednesday saying debris collectors would be assessing the volume to be picked up and then will determined dates for collection.

The Utilities Department is asking residents in unincorporated areas of Manatee County to place all storm-related debris at the curb so that the department can properly assess the proper equipment needed for collection. 

As far as sandbags, county officials have encouraged residents to keep them in the garage or other storage areas for the next time they may need them. Hurricane season is not officially over until Nov. 30.

If residents prefer to dispose of their sandbags, they should be placed alongside household garbage to be removed with normal garbage collection.

Storm-related debris should be sorted into:

— Yard waste (trees, limbs, brush, etc.), which does not need to be bundled.

— Ruined appliances, refrigerators and freezers.

— Construction materials such as metal awnings, roofing, drywall, carpet and lumber.

As a last resort, residents may take storm debris to the Lena Road Landfill, 3333 Lena Road, Bradenton, where disposal will be subject to standard tipping fees.
