The Manatee County School District doesn't want its students to start the school day on empty stomachs.

March 2 through March 6 is National School Breakfast Week for county students.

Students will receive free breakfast from special menus, in decorated cafeterias to celebrate the annual event, which spotlights the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast.

The week's theme is "Make the Grade with School Breakfast," to remind parents, students and faculty members of the importance of eating breakfast before school.

But, the school district isn't stopping there.

County students will receive free breakfast for the remainder of the school year, a press release said.

"Every school day, our district's Food and Nutrition Service's breakfast program offers students a healthy breakfast that they need to get set for a busy school day," said Sandra Ford, Food and Nutrition Services director. "Every school breakfast meets federal nutrition standards in limiting fat, calories and sodium so students can perform better in school and exhibit better behavior."
