After suffering a stroke in May, Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle has been given the OK to resume a limited schedule in his role as commissioner, but he will not run for reelection in 2016.
Bustle participated in meetings by phone this month and plans to attend meetings in person in October.
“After a summer of rest, rehabilitation, recovery and careful refletio, I have decided not to run for reelection next year. In 2016, I will finish my second term on the county commission and begin a new chapter in my life’s journey devoted to time with my wife, Edie, my family and my friends,” Bustle said in a statement.
Bustle, a U.S. military veteran, served as the mayor of the city of Palmetto before joining the commission in 2008. He has been in public service for a total of 46 years.
