Manatee County commissioners will consider an alternative application process for individuals planning special events in the county.

At a workshop Aug. 25, commissioners will discuss a proposed special events ordinance. The ordinance was developed at the urging of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office to improve safety and security concerns.

Rather than requiring a land-use permit as is the existing process, a separate permit would be issues. It delineates the pre-planning components of hosting an event, including traffic, parking, safety, security, ingress and egress, sanitation and lighting, among other concerns. The draft ordinance also delineates the fee schedule associated with such a permit.

The board also will hear a report by Health Management Associates, the vendor it contracted to develop a health care model to provide services to uninsured Manatee County residents.

The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Manatee Room, on the fourth floor of the county administration building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
