Man drowns off coast of Casey Key

Three surfers rescued Melody James after she became distressed Sunday of the coast of Casey Key, but her boyfriend Vincent Charles Daniels was pronounced dead at Venice Regional Bayfront Health.

A 53-year-old man drowned off of the coast of Casey Key Sunday, according to a release from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Three surfers and the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol brought Vincent Charles Daniels and his girlfriend Melody James to shore after 6:33 p.m. Emergency personnel transported Daniels to Venice Regional Bayfront Health, where he was pronounced dead.

James did not require medical attention.
