Work that was originally slated to take the entire month of June to complete ended up only lasting 11 days.

Crews from Jon Swift Inc. removed the fencing from the 1300 block of Main Street early Friday morning, and they prepared to test the underground waterline they had just installed.

The city had scheduled June 1-30 to finish that project and had anticipated the entire block would be closed that whole time.

But in late May, the contractor said it would only be closing half of the block at a time and that the work may only take a total of two weeks.

The eastern half of the block closed June 1, and work was completed June 8. Construction on the western half began June 8 and took just three days.

The next project scheduled downtown is the Five Point roundabout, which begins July 5. That intersection is scheduled to be closed until early September. Work is expected to last until Thanksgiving.
