The Longboat Observer won second place in its category in the Suburban Newspapers of America’s 2009 Newspaper of the Year/General Excellence contest. The Longboat Observer was entered in the non-daily category, with a circulation of 10,001 to 22,500.

In their comments about The Observer, the judges said: “A pleasant combination of hard news articles and softer pieces about Florida’s lifestyle. Nice use of photos to tell stories!”
