It appears the town of Longboat Key’s 30-day single-family home rental rule is not in jeopardy.

An aide to Florida House Rep. Jim Boyd informed Longboat Key Mayor Jim Brown in an email Wednesday, April 6, that an amendment to a bill being reviewed by the Legislature has been filed that would grandfather in municipalities that already have ordinances in place.

The bill, which already has passed through two committees in the House and is now being reviewed by a Judiciary Committee, would allow residential property owners to rent a residential home for one day if they wish.

The town’s current 30-day rental rule requires that Key homeowners rent their homes for 30 days or more at a time.

Without the amendment, town attorney David Persson advised the town the 30-day rental rule would be bull and void.
