Tea for the Sea

What: The annual high tea event will celebrate women’s leadership in the fields of science and philanthropy. Tea and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be speakers and a live auction. Cost is $150, and proceeds will go toward Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. Call 388-4441, Ext. 393.

'The Power of Rest — How to Renew Your Body' — Takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Suite 212. Sleep expert Matthew Edlund will teach that rest is regeneration and that active rest can be done rapidly anywhere and any time and can advance health. Cost is $40 for members; $45 for nonmembers. Christ Church Fashion Show — Takes place at 11 a.m. at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Fashions will be provided by Patchington, and hair will be styled by Design 2000. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $15, and proceeds will benefit the Learn to Fish Recovery Center and the church. “Fabric Collage” — Takes place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 1 through Feb. 22. Students of all levels will learn how to use fabric as a basis for creating finished artworks. Bring a variety of fabrics and sharp fabric scissors. Other materials will be provided for $10 per person. Cost for the four classes is $125 for members; $130 for nonmembers.
