The Longboat Key Town Commission agreed to move forward with a bid for a new town attorney at its regular meeting Monday night at Town Hall.

Town Manager Dave Bullock received direction Monday to place a bid for the services of a new contract attorney. The bid will be placed for 30 days before the town schedules one or two commission work sessions to review the firms that apply.

In total, it could take the commission four to six weeks to go through the process and select a new attorney.
Also at its regular meeting, the commission:

Forwarded to its March 4 regular meeting for second reading and public hearing:
• An ordinance that makes an annual update to the capital improvements element to the Comprehensive Plan.
• An ordinance that amends the code that provides for the distribution of 250 tourism units.
• An ordinance that allows for a $25,000 budget transfer for Gulf of Mexico Drive street lighting modifications.
• An ordinance that provides for a $50,000 additional homestead exemption for qualifying seniors.

Passed:
• A resolution that allows for a $20,580 contribution for Police Chief Pete Cumming’s 401a retirement plan.
