Longboat Key gets a new challenge

Longboat Key is up for a new challenge: the first open-water race for rowers, scullers and human-powered water craft on the waters of Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce President Tom Aposporos announced the Longboat Key Challenge 2011 at the “The New Year, the New Longboat: A Celebration of Things to Come” event Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Harbourside Dining Room.

The event will take place Sunday, April 3, and will begin and end at the town dock in the Longbeach Village. The course will be seven miles, with a three-mile option also available. Registration is capped at 60. Cost is $40 and includes a race after-party with a cash bar.
