County commissioners kicked off this morning the first phase of the construction of the new Gulf Gate Library.
The commission approved a $28,660 contract with Harvard Jolly Inc. for architectural and engineering services.
The Punta Gorda company will search for a suitable site for the new facility, which will offer lending, reference and youth services, as well as public-computer access, wireless-internet access and community-meeting space.
Site selection is scheduled to be complete in July. The current library is located at 7112 Curtiss Ave.
