+ Reading facts may provide the answer
Dear Editor:

In response to the letter to the editor by Bob Gault in the Feb. 6 issue of the Longboat Observer wherein he blames me (and "friends”) for the "further decline of Longboat Key" (as though that were a fact, despite abundant evidence to the contrary).

Apparently, Gault believes the actions of the Town Commission, which approved commercial development, of which the Town's Planning & Zoning Director described as overbuilt, were appropriate. Actions the courts have, by the unanimous agreement of five judges, determined to be a miscarriage of justice and in violation of the state constitution.

His response is to blame me? For what, exactly? Forcing the commissioners to abide by the code they swore to uphold? Where are the rascals, he asks? Introspection and a reading of the facts might provide the answer he seeks.

Dear Editor:

The Longboat Key Garden Club would like to thank all those who supported our scholarship and grant programs by attending our Taste of the Keys and Fashion Show. Thank you to our sponsors, restaurants and talented models. A special thank you to Matt Walsh for being our emcee and making the “show” so very entertaining.

+ Responsibility before dreams suggestions
Dear Editor:

1. The $6 million for the recreation center could be used to pay off the pension debt.
2. The tennis center should be self-supporting.
3. The $25,000 to study lighting along GMD could be carried out by existing staff, and the funds should be appropriated to the pension debt fund.
