Driving south on U.S. 41 from the North Trail into downtown Sarasota, Dr. Donal O’Shea was surprised by what he saw early last summer. Largely undeveloped and dotted with vacant storefronts, the five-mile stretch of highway that serves as a gateway to the city showed little sign of the educational hub he knew existed there.

Homebuilder Lee Wetherington Homes has opened its first new model in Country Club East’s Haddionton neighborhood, in Lakewood Ranch.

The Solvita model is a new design that can be modified to a one- or two-level floorplan.

“This concept has been very successful for us,” Peter Mason, vice president of sales for the Lakewood Ranch-based home builder,  said, noting the company had seven home sales before the model even opened. “We show the two -story version and let people know they can go with just the bottom floor which changes very little. It’s like showing two homes in one and building the bigger version helps consumers visualize the difference,”

The one-story Solivita starts at 2644 square feet and the two-story can be built with flex options up to about 4,000 square feet. The great-room floorplan includes three bedrooms, plus a den, with options of adding more rooms upstairs.

The Haddington model has a dramatic Tuscan exterior and includes frequently-requested items, such as a Florida basement, a large eat-in kitchen, an outdoor dining area and en-suite bedrooms, plus flex options.

The model also has an infinity edge pool and spa, plus a state-of-the-art screen enclosure with fewer beams to maximize the large lake view.

In Haddington, Lee Wetherington Homes will start in the $400,000s for a 2,500 square foot home and lot.

The gated community will feature private roads, including its own transponder-controlled “residents-only” gate, paver sidewalks, lush community landscaping and upgraded landscape requirements for all residences.

Neighborhood amenities will include three gazebos for gathering and relaxing and a kayak launch.

Country Club East is a private, gated community built around lakes, nature preserves and 18 holes of Rick Robbins-designed golf.
