Local toy store, Learning Express Toys, is taking the Loom bracelet craze a step further in East County.

During the store's hours, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 13, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 14, the retailer, located at 8451 Cooper Creek Blvd., invites children to create the multi-colored rubber bracelets for a cause.

Each bracelet crafted at the Loom-a-thon will go toward MaxLove Project's goal of creating a 100-mile rainbow Loom chain.

The 125 Learning Express locations nationwide will each craft pieces of the chain to donate to the MaxLove Project — a nonprofit organization founded to provide support for children with cancer and their families. The University Parkway location will also have MaxLove charms available for sale, with proceeds also benefiting the project.

MaxLove is named after Max, or Super Max, a 7-year-old who battles brain cancer. Max appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show in February, after Kimmel discovered the child's love for Loom bracelets. Kimmel auctioned off a rainbow "suit of the Loom" on-air, and donated proceeds to the MaxLove Project.
