Lakewood Ranch child in critical condition

A toddler remains in critical condition this morning after he nearly drowned in the family pool around 7 p.m. March 16.

A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report states Atwian Walters, 32, was eating dinner in his Summerfeld home in the 12000 block of Nightshade Place and had the sliding door slightly cracked open. When he finished eating, he noticed the door was open wider, went outside and found his 1-year-old son in the pool.

The child was unresponsive.

He was removed and lifesaving efforts began. Paramedics arrived and transported the child to the hospital in critical condition.

Detectives responded to investigate the incident. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow said he does not expect any charges to be filed.
