Lady Mustangs bunt way to district semifinals

The Lakewood Ranch High softball team defeated Bayshore 11-0 in the Class 4A-District 10 quarterfinals April 19.

Huntyre Elling earned the win for the Lady Mustangs, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five in two innings of work. Brittany Kilduff pitched the final three innings for Lakewood, striking out five.

Taylor Newton finished with three RBIs and three runs scored and McKaleigh Goodale finished with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way for Lakewood at the plate.

Sarai Miller and Dana Hutchins hit a double, drove in two and scored a run; and Sarah Burnett hit a double and a triple and scored a run. Jenn Trotter, Katie Hopkins and Amber Wimmer all scored runs for the Lady Mustangs and Hopkins added an RBI.

With the win, Lakewood will travel to Seminole Osceola to take on the second-seeded Warriors in the district semifinals. The winner will advance to Friday night’s district championship game to face the winner of tonight’s other district semifinal between top-seeded Braden River and St. Petersburg Lakewood.
