LA Fitness will become an anchor tenant in a new plaza at the corner of State Road 70 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.

Tavistock Development Co. today announced LA Fitness will lease a 34,000-square-foot space within The Green at Lakewood Ranch. The Green is a 525,000-square-foot mixed-use development with a focus on health and fitness industries. The project is part of Lakewood Ranch developer Schroeder-Manatee Ranch’s larger Collaborative Opportunities for Research and Exploration biomedical park, better known as CORE.

L.A. Fitness will serve as one of two major anchor tenants and is expected to open by summer 2018. It will join natural foods grocer Earth Fare, the plaza’s first anchor tenant announced earlier this year. The store currently is under construction.

“A high-quality fitness center is an ideal ingredient to creating vibrant, mixed-use projects,” said Skipper Peek, senior vice president of commercial development for Tavistock Development Co., in a press release. “We believe LA Fitness is best-in-class and a great addition to The Green and the planned four million square feet of nearby office and biotech space.”

LA Fitness Senior Vice President/Chief Real Estate Officer Bill Horner said, in a press release, that the location is perfect for the franchise and will be convenient for customers and allow them to maximize their memberships.

“At L.A. Fitness we have found around the country that a having access to a high quality fitness center can be a part of a decision to locate into a new community and is also a great place for residents to meet each other,” he said in a statement.

Eventually, The Green at Lakewood Ranch will feature more than two dozen high quality shops and restaurants ranging from iconic national brands to local concepts within 150,000 square feet of retail, office and restaurant spaces and 304 luxury residences. Site work began in May and is projected to open in the first quarter of 2018.
