Sarasota voters head to the polls today to decide nearly a dozen key primary races and referenda.

Voters will choose their party’s candidate for governor, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, attorney general, county commissioner, hospital board and charter review board.

The winners of those races will go on to face the winner of the opposing party’s primary in November if there is a candidate from the opposing party.

Several nonpartisan races will be decided in the primary, including three school board members and a county judge.

One school board seat, district one, has three candidates, Dr. Carol Todd, Dr. Joseph Neunder and Barry Woolf. If the leading candidate does not garner 50% of the vote in the primary, the top two candidates will face off in a runoff in November.

The polls will be open until 7 p.m. this evening.
