Irrigation dilemma warrants consideration

Supervisors of Lakewood Ranch’s community development districts soon will be holding a strategic planning session to discuss how to deal with the community’s irrigation problems while waiting for potential access to reclaimed water.

“This is the kind of question that needs to be deliberated by the entire group (of CDD supervisors),” Community Manager Bob Fernandez said at an agenda review meeting Tuesday.

Coincidently, Tuesday the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners voted to move forward with the idea of allowing the use of reclaimed water from portions the Evers Reservoir watershed, passing transmittal of an amendment to do so to the Department of Community Affairs.

Fernandez planned to check with each CDD board to see which of three dates — two next week and one the second week of April — would work best for supervisors.

Town Hall staff will hold work on the irrigation study until after getting feedback from that meeting.
