Islandside Property Owners Coalition (IPOC) President Bob White believes the town’s Planning and Zoning Board made an “ill considered” decision to approve seven code changes proposed by the Longboat Key Club and Resort.

In a release issued Wednesday, White says the board did not seem to understand the impact of the proposed changes on the integrity of the code in all of the planned developments on the Key, as well as all zoning districts Key-wide in the case of a provision designed to control blockage of views.

These changes, if approved by the Town Commission, White wrote, will allow more commercial tourism density in each of the many planned unit developments on the Key.

The changes being made, White wrote, “render the code itself essentially meaningless and its integrity (is) no longer able to be relied upon by an owner of property within any of these development districts.”

Wrote White: “Under the circumstances, the coalition, as well as a number of aggrieved property owners, is currently discussing judicial actions to enforce its rights and the town's Comprehensive Plan and town code.”
