The Manatee County Planning Commission on Thursday will discuss the School Board’s potential change in impact fees, as well as development adjacent to the Central Park community, in Lakewood Ranch.

The impact fee discussion is slated for a 9 a.m. start.

In May, the Manatee County School Board accepted an impact fee study completed by TischlerBise and now is transmitting that to the county for approval.

Amendments to be considered Thursday recognize the study and revise the impact fee schedule for educational facilities.

Impact fees are one–time fees assessed on new development. When new dwellings are constructed, they impact county educational facilities with new students. Impact fees assist the Manatee County School District by providing funds to increase school capacity for additional students.

The fees cannot be used to replace, maintain, or rehabilitate existing school facilities.

School impact fees are collected countywide.

Also on the agenda is a change in the Northwest Sector Development of Regional Impact for commercial development off Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, next to the Central Park community.
