Residents can breath a sigh of relief: Hurricane season, which began June 1, ends at midnight, leaving Florida coastal communities unscathed.

But despite the lack of local impact, 2010 hurricane season was an active one. According to the Hurricane Season 2010 Scorecard on the Weather Channel’s website, this season had 19 named storms, 12 of which became hurricanes. Only two other seasons since 1950 (2005 and 1969) have had 12 or more hurricanes.

None of this year’s hurricanes made U.S. landfall.
