Micro tunneling is underway and a hired contractor has tunneled 299 feet of the 345 feet needed for a Hudson Bayou water lift station launch pit project north of Hudson Bayou Bridge to Mound Street. The contractor began preparing the receiving pit at Mound Street on Monday.

Osprey Avenue will remain closed to through traffic from Waldemere to Mound Street (U.S. 41). The detour route is U.S. 41 from Waldemere to Mound Street. Local traffic is permitted to enter from Mound Street. For exiting, go south to Bahia Vista and follow the detour. Use caution when exiting your business or residents as the only separation between the workers 25-feet down in the pits and the public is a barrier wall. There will be periodic traffic stops as equipment and materials are moved throughout the work area.

The detour will remain in effect through November 2012 for micro tunneling south of Lincoln Avenue and work on Hudson Bayou Bridge.

The $9.5 million lift station project is on schedule to be complete this summer, although , Osprey Avenue will be closed from Lincoln Avenue to Alta Vista Street before it’s reopened in November.
