State Representative Doug Holder, R-Osprey, launched his campaign for the newly drawn Florida House of Representatives District 74 seat Thursday. The district encompasses South Sarasota County, including the cities of Osprey, Nokomis, Venice and parts of North Port and Englewood.

Representative Holder was first elected to the House of Representatives District 70 seat in 2006, and was subsequently reelected to continue his service to the people of former District 70.

“I feel honored to have served the people of Sarasota County in the Florida House of Representatives, and am proud that in my time in the House, we have been able to reduce government spending, eliminate burdensome regulations on small businesses, and create economic incentives for businesses to create jobs here in Florida,” said Representative Holder, in a news release. “However, there is still much work to be done and I humbly ask for the opportunity to continue representing Sarasota County in Tallahassee.”

Holder is currently a state representative from Sarasota County and local businessman. He was first elected to former House District 70 in 2006, an office he has held for six years.
