Longboat Key Historical Society President Tom Mayers requested the town allocate at least $1,000 per year to the organization.

In a March 31 email to Town Manager Bruce St. Denis and the Longboat Key Town Commission in response for the town’s request that the Historical Society participate in the 2011 Goals and Objectives Meeting, Mayers wrote:

“Our core belief is that the Historical Society makes life more interesting and fun here on Longboat Key. This belief reflects your Vision goal of ‘strategies and tactics which both preserve and promote Longboat Key to benefit existing and future residents and businesses.’”

The Goals and Objectives Meeting will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, April 11, at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

The Longboat Key Historical Society Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most weekdays at 6826 Gulf of Mexico Drive and features old Longboat Key newspapers, photographs, video and audio.
