It's graduation by design this year for Ringling College of Art and Design's class of 2015.

David Bromstad, host of HGTV's redesign and makeover shows "Color Splash" and "Color Splash Miami," will be delivering the college's 2015 commencement address at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.

A Ringling College alumnus himself, Bromstad graduated in 1996 and his career trajector and advice is a fitting example for the Ringling students ready to enter the professional arts and creative industries. "David is a Ringling College illustration program class of 1996 alumnus who represents all majors with his focus on both art and design and the business of art and design," says Larry R. Thompson, president of Ringling College in a prepared statement. "His success is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that is so much at the core of Ringling College. Our graduates can relate to his pathway to success, and we are very happy have him come back to Ringling to speak to provide inspiration for their futures."

Bromstad's innate talent, determination and abilities that he gathered while at Ringling College prepared him to rise in the world of art and design. After graduating, Bromstad worked at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure installing large thematic installations throughout the respective theme parks. He broke through to a national audience in 2006 after winning the debut season of "HGTV's Design Star" competition. Bromstad's prize was his own show "Color Splash," which featured the enthusiastic designer remodeling guests' rooms with creative uses of color and design. The show moved from it's original location in San Francisco to Miami in 2010.

In addition to his own show, Bromstad returned to "Design Star" in 2012 as host and contestant mentor, hosted the first season of "Design Star All Stars," and launched the program "The White Room Challenge" based off the popular "Design Star" challenge of the same name. During his time at HGTV, Bromstad has completed over 100 redesigns all over the country and has been featured in other shows such as "HGTV'd," "HGTV Showdown" and "Bang For Your Buck." In addition to his television talents, Bromstad was the first HGTV personality to be named to "OUT Magazine"'s 100 List, a list of the most influential members and supporters of the LGBTQ community.
