GreyHawk CDD readies for turnover

GREYHAWK LANDING — The keys to GreyHawk Landing’s newest amenity center are changing hands.

GreyHawk Landing West developer Sam Rodgers Homes is slated to turn over control of GreyHawk Landing West’s new pool and amenity center to the GreyHawk Landing Community Development District by the end of the week.

“That doesn’t mean we will immediately occupy it,” GreyHawk Landing CDD Chairman Ollie Kyte said. “We have to do some things to it — move the field manager in, install furniture (and take care of other items).”

The CDD expects to open the new pool and amenity center to residents in late July or early August.

“Folks are anxious,” Kyte said. “We have been talking about the new facility in GreyHawk West for months. We thought it may be turned over to us earlier in the year, but, because of bad weather, it kept being pushed back.”

The new center will offer residents a kitchen and multi-purpose room, among other features. A new ADA-compliant pool eventually will offer nighttime swimming, but only after appropriate lighting has been installed, said John Phillips, GreyHawk’s field manager.

The CDD also plans to add a picnic area in a grassy area behind the pool, he said.

“There are a lot of little things (that need to get done before the public can use this amenity),” Phillips said. “I think people are going to have a ball here (once it opens).”

Residents of GreyHawk Landing West, which will have about 500 homes once it is built out, and the GreyHawk Landing development both will have access to the new and existing community amenities.

The original GreyHawk Landing clubhouse will be converted into a fitness-and-recreation center, after the new amenity center opens. Kyte said the CDD has ordered about $15,000 worth of exercise equipment for the project.

Kyte also said the CDD has ordered hardware for a new photo-identification card system for accessing amenities throughout the GreyHawk community, but it has not yet been received.

Once the new system is installed, however, the district will begin issuing cards to its residents. The cards will replace the existing tag-based access system.

Kyte said the specific process for implementing the new card-access system will be discussed at the district’s July 25 meeting.

+ Waterlefe CDD continues landscaping improvements
Supervisors on the Waterlefe Community Development District board are pushing forward with long-range landscape-improvement plans.

In June, landscapers completed work at the entrance to Waterlefe and along Upper Manatee River Road.

CDD Board Chairman Ken Bumbarger said the installation of lighting was delayed because of rain, but it should be finished July 31.

The district is setting aside about $100,000 annually for landscape improvements, which are part of a multi-year plan developed through discussions between the CDD and Waterlefe’s Property Owners’ Association.

Supervisors met June 25 to discuss improvements and other issues.
