Girls Inc. of Sarasota celebrated its new vegetable garden with a ribbon cutting Monday, Oct. 21. The Junior League of Sarasota and the non-profit partnered for a new community nutrition initiative called “Menu for Nutrition.” The girls will take care of the garden and grow their own vegetables while learning the importance of nutrition.

The girls have been learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle; now they can further their education outside in the garden. Junior League members will donate $2,000 of supplies and have pledged 100 volunteer hours to Girls Inc. for the duration of the project.

“They’re going to appreciate it and take pride in the fact they grew the vegetables themselves,” Junior League member Joni Liberty said.
