The developer of the Riva Trace community wants to change an existing site plan to eliminate an emergency access. The change has the support of county staff.

Manatee County commissioners will vote on the issue at their meeting Dec. 1. It starts at 9 a.m. at the county’s administrative building, 1112 Manatee Avenue West.

Site plans approved in July 2006 for the Medallion Home project included an emergency access at Meeting Street that was accessible either by a remote control or a siren-activated system. Since then, public safety officials have said a new layout of the roads alleviates the need for a secondary means of access.

The county has 66 pages worth of public comment on the issue.

The board also will consider a request for a mixed-use project on nearly 68 acres located generally north of State Road 70, south of 59th Avenue East, east of Lorraine Road and west of Post Boulevard.

The approvals would allow construction of up to 220 residential uses and a maximum of 573,500 square feet of non-residential (commercial and office) space, or a combination of residential, commercial and office not exceeding thresholds of a combined project.
