With more than one acre combined and more than 516 feet of waterfront access, the homes at 491 and 492 Meadow Lark Drive make up the largest lot on Bird Key. They recently went on the market for a combined $6,699,999.

The smaller of the lots at 492 Meadow Lark Drive was originally built for Harland C. Forbes, a former chief executive of Con Edison Co.

According to an obituary in the New York Times following his 1990 death at age 92, Forbes joined the company in 1924 as an assistant to the chief electrical engineer and went on to direct a $530 million expansion program following World War II in which the company created new plants and improved existing ones.

He became president in 1955 and chairman in 1957 before retiring in December 1965, according to the obituary.

The properties are also available separately, with the home at 491 Meadow Lark Drive listed for $4,799,999 and the 492 Meadow Lark Drive property listed at $1,849,999.

The larger home was built in 1992, but a 95% remodel and addition took place in 1997. It has six bedrooms, five bathrooms, more than 6,500 square feet of living space and luxury features such as a separate butler’s kitchen, heated pool and spa and private roof deck.

It is a past recipient of the Founders Club of Sarasota’s Sun Dial Award, having been featured on the “Tour of Distinguished Homes.”

The 492 Meadow Lark Drive property was built in 1966 and has four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms and more than 3,600 square feet.

Sarasota County property records list the current owner of the lots as Sanford Schlitt.

The properties last sold for $634,000 in October 1993, according to property records.

The properties are listed by a team of agents at Sarasota Premier Properties Inc.
