The Sarasota County Commission today holds what should be its final hearing on a change to an ordinance regulating strip clubs.

Because of the way the county code defined adult businesses, some of those businesses felt the county was allowing all-nude establishments.

The current ordinance does not allow full nudity at an adult business, but the code contains a definition of a strip club that specifically refers to “semi-nude” employees, but it does not mention anything about full nudity.

County Attorney Steve DeMarsh said the ordinance needed to be clarified because some adult businesses were interpreting this to mean that they were allowed to have fully nude employees.

If commissioners vote today to alter the ordinance, as expected, the county’s definition of adult cabarets so it refers to both semi-nudity and full nudity.
