April 15 may be Tax Day, but after you’ve filed your taxes, here’s something to look forward to: the start of the Fidelity Investments Senior Doubles tournament, which takes place Thursday, April 15 through Sunday, April 18, at Longboat Key Public Tennis Center.

Tournament Director Dick Schlorf said that the Tennis Center is expecting approximately 100 players for the tournament, which is limited to USTA members and features men’s 60s and 70s and women’s 55 and 65 doubles divisions.

According to Schlorf, the tournament mostly attracts local players.

“They can look forward to good competition,” Schlorf said.

The tournament will kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Tennis Center, with hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Tickets are $15 for guests; the cost of the kickoff is included in players’ entry fees of $35 by mail or $38.13 at www.tennislink.usta.com. Matches will take place Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18, with Monday, April 19 reserved as a rain date.

The tournament will feature a consolation round and playoff for third place.

“Players are guaranteed two matches, and if they win either one of them, then they get to play four,” Schlorf said.

Entries for the tournament must be submitted by 7 p.m. Monday, April 12. For mail-in registration, send checks payable to Friends of Tennis to Longboat Key Public Tennis Center, 590 Bay Isles Road, Longboat
Key, Fla., 34228. For information, call 316-8367 or go to www.longboatkey.org.
