The Florida Department of Transportation will make temporary modifications to the intersection of U.S. 41 and Fruitville Road Wednesday night, in an attempt to correct cuing problems and improve traffic flow at the intersection.

FDOT will use temporary striping to shift the traffic pattern westward by removing the existing northbound left turn lane on U.S. 41 at Fruitville Road and creating a 375-foot right turn lane.

It also will changer the northbound dedicated left-turn lane into a through lane, FDOT spokesman Robin Stublen said.
No signal head location modifications are required,

“This is a 30-day test,” Stublen said. “After 30 days, engineers will (evaluate to) see if the striping will be permanent. We have a lot of traffic stacking up there. We’re doing it now, so we can see the full extent, with the tourists, and analyze everything.”

The striping changes will be in effect from 9 p.m. March 11 through 6 a.m. March 12. Drivers should use caution to the new traffic pattern.
