The Florida Department of Transportation is moving forward with construction of a diverging diamond interchange at University Parkway and Interstate 75.

During a luncheon hosted by the Manatee Chamber of Commerce today, FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad announced design for the project not only is 90% complete, but also that Gov. Rick Scott has approved an $83 million financing plan for the interchange.

Florida Rep. Greg Steube and Sen. Bill Galvano also announced their respective legislative bodies will support funding the project.

Prasad said he expects FDOT to bid out the project in May and construction likely will begin in July.
