Today and Monday, Manatee County Emergency Management will test its ability to host thousands of displaced residents during a hypothetical storm event.

Each county in Florida will participate in the exercise, which is based on the 1926 hurricane that devastated south Florida. The event will allow Manatee to review its ability to provide long term food, houseing and care for up to 150,000 displaced people in addition to its existing population.

The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., May 29, and  1:30-4:30 p.m., June 1 at the county's Emergency Operation's Center.
