More than 100 students from Emma E. Booker Elementary enjoyed a variety of hands-on learning experiences with local scientific and cultural organizations in the spring. All expenses were paid through an Education Foundation Exploration Grant.

Education Foundation awards teachers $73,513

The Education Foundation awarded 51 teachers and teacher teams a total of $73,513 for the Exploration Grant.

The Exploration Grant proposals teachers submitted in June will receive full funding that will benefit 7,900 students in 23 different schools in Sarasota County.

The grant will underwrite learning adventures, educational field trips and in-class workshops. The 49 grants of up to $1,500 each and two Expanded Exploration grants of $5,000 will link classrooms to experiential opportunities.

Students will explore the arts, history and scientific resources.

The Patterson Foundation matches philanthropic gifts for the Education Foundation Exploration Grants.

Brookside Middle School and Venice Middle School received the Expanded Exploration Grant of up to $5,000 each.

The following schools are recipients of the Exploration Grant: Alta Vista Elementary, Atwater Elementary, Cranberry Elementary, Emma E. Booker Elementary, Englewood Elementary, Fruitville Elementary, Gocio Elementary, Heron Creek Middle, Lamarque Elementary, Laurel Nokomis School, Oak Park South, Phillippi Shores Elementary, Pine View School, Riverview High School, Sarasota High School, Sarasota Middle School, Sarasota Military Academy, Saraota School of Arts and Sciences, Southside Elementary, Tatum Ridge Elementary and Venice Middle School.
