Early voting for undergrounding referendum begins today

Early voting begins 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 26 through Oct. 30 at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

Early voting for an island-wide referendum vote on whether to bury overhead utilities along Gulf of Mexico Drive begins today at Longboat Key Town Hall.

The vote asks voters to issue bonds or notes not to exceed $25.25 million to finance the burying of Gulf of Mexico Drive  overhead power feeder and utility lines and power poles. The project also includes replacing/enhancing street lighting along the road and installing a fiber optic network.

Early voting begins 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Oct. 30 at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road. 

The last day to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Oct. 28. For more information, contact the town clerk’s office at 316-1999.
