A group of downtown merchants is working together to give to local men and women in the military this holiday season.

This month, the Sarasota Downtown Merchants Association announced the beginning of a campaign called “Operation Care Package.” The initiative will send packages with products from local merchants to local individuals serving overseas in the armed forces.

“Our participation in ‘Operation Care Package’ is an opportunity for downtown merchants and residents to show our friends and family members serving our country overseas that we are thinking of them and that we appreciate their service,” SDMA Chairman Ron Soto said in a press release.

Already, more than fifteen downtown businesses have signed on to participate in the campaign. The group is inviting other merchants to donate products, services or gift cards to the effort. Interested businesses can contact the organization by emailing [email protected].

SDMA is also encouraging residents to donate to the cause. More information about how to give can be found on the association’s website
