The bottlenose dolphin stranded a week-and-a-half ago on Longboat Key remains in critical condition but is showing signs of improvement.

Edna, a three-year-old dolphin discovered by Mote’s Sea Turtle Patrol, continues to receive round-the-clock care for pneumonia at Mote’s Dolphin and Whale Hospital.

However, Edna has been swimming on her own, eating fish tossed into her pool on her own and interacting more with environmental-enrichment devices designed to keep animals mentally and physically stimulated — all of which are positive indicators.

Mote is seeking donations to help with Edna’s care. To make a donation, go to mote.org/hospitalhelp or call 388-4441, Ext. 309.
