Deputies arrest shooting suspect

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit arrested a 21-year-old man for a Newtown shooting April 9.

Richard Tarton confessed during an interview with Sarasota Police detectives to shooting Willfredo Pellot Jr. five times March 23.

The shooting happened at the 2500 block of Pershing Avenue, and Pellot Jr. was transferred from Sarasota Memorial Hospital to Blake Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries, according to a Sarasota Police news release.
