The future Longboat Key Publix has been in the spotlight since the Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc. submitted plans to the town in July, but during the last week in April, it was CVS that reached new heights.

After installing vertical beams last week, contractors have moved on to building walls for the new 12,900-square-foot drug store, which is slated to open in September. The new CVS will be located where the Longboat Key Shell station once stood.

As of Monday afternoon, Publix demolition was ongoing.

Publix and Avenue of the Flowers Acquisition have obtained a combined building permits for the project. The total implicated cost of all permits is $5,544,708.
