Sarasota County continues its recovery from the recession, as the local taxable values are slated to climb more than 7% in the next fiscal year. The final taxable values are more than one percentage point greater than the state’s original estimates.
"As a result, the general fund ad valorem revenue has increased by ($275,000),” said County Administrator Tom Harmer in an email to commissioners.
Countywide taxable values have climbed to more than $46.5 billion for the 2016 fiscal year since 2013, after declining for five straight years from $62.7 billion in the 2009 fiscal year. The county is expecting to hold the current tax rate steady at 3.39 mills.
The city of Sarasota's final taxable values eclipse $8.1 billion, which is roughly 7% more than the last fiscal year.
Values within most of the county's special taxing district increased by at least 3%, but the Pinecraft Lighting District is slated to lose about 2% of its value and the Englewood Community Redevelopment Area is down 1% over the previous fiscal year.
Manatee County outpaced Sarasota with an 8% increase in taxable values for the upcoming fiscal year.
