Sarasota County this morning lifted the boil-water advisory for roughly 2,600 Siesta Key residents affected by a broken water main on the south end of the island.

The county reported the break Oct. 18, and staff repaired the connection the same day, according to a news release. But, state law requires municipalities or other drinking-water providers to issue the advisory even if they don’t suspect contamination.

Sarasota County this summer contracted Arrow Directional Boring Inc. to replace the water main connection between Siesta and Casey Key to improve flow and reliability, which staff expected to be completed this month.
