The Sarasota County Commission will meet tomorrow in the third floor think tank at the County Administration Building to consider updates to growth and development regulations.

“Our impact fee systems are starting to get a little bit long in the tooth,” said County Public Works General Manager Clarke Davis during a Sept. 14 meeting of the Public Facilities Financing Board. He told board members, who recommend tax policies to the County Commission, that the data the county’s impact fees are currently based on are out of date, with some statistics coming from as far back as 2005.

Impact fees are only one aspect of the county’s comprehensive growth plan that will be considered during the special workshop. County staff will recommend County commissioners complete a new Evaluation and Appraisal Report, which is a document that determines if state growth regulations are met by local governments.

The state removed the Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Reduction requirement mandated for local governments, among other changes that will be discussed tomorrow.
