ANONYMOUS TIP
12:45 a.m. — 1300 block Main Street. Noise Violation. Police were called about a noise disturbance coming from two pubs. An officer arrived and could hear the music through the open doors, but the music did not violate any ordinance. Several complaints have been reported to police, but the callers never want to meet with police.

Jan. 28
PUTTING OUT FIRES
2:05 p.m. — 1600 block Main Street. Suspicion Person. A property owner reported a homeless man camping behind a business. Video shows the man urinating on several occasions, and he has started small fires in the past. The property owner is involved in entering the police department’s trespass program and has requested extra police patrols.

NOT-SO-GOOD MORNING
7:05 a.m. — 600 block N. Tamiami Trail. Trespassing. An employee reported a man was sleeping outside the building. The employee told police that this happens frequently. She said it scares her and other employees who arrive early in the morning. The man was gone before a police officer arrived. The officer found the man and told him he can no longer sleep outside the building. The officer suggested that he use one of the social services in the area.

BUYER’S REMORSE
10:45 a.m. — 1200 block S. Tamiami Trail. Trespassing. A shopping plaza security guard reported a homeless woman was trespassing. A police officer issued a trespass warning before escorting the woman into the store to exchange a bag of pretzels.

DRIFTING OFF
8:29 p.m. — 100 block Golden Gate Point. Unclassified. A boat slipped anchor and was drifting toward rocks. The Coast Guard was dispatched.

NOISY NEIGHBOR
8:41 p.m. — 1000 block N. Jefferson Ave. Unclassified. A resident reported an ongoing problem with his neighbor’s pit bull that barks loudly while it is tied up in the yard. Loud music was also playing at the home.

PILL PANIC
9:23 p.m. — 4700 block N. Tamiami Trail. Theft From Vehicle. A woman called police after a bottle of Xanax was stolen from her Dodge Neon. The woman believed she knew who took the pills and told police repeatedly she needed a police report so she could refill the prescription. Due to conflicting witness reports, police were unable to make an arrest.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT
11:40 p.m. — 500 block N. Beneva Road. Shoplifting. A security officer at a department store noticed a woman concealing merchandise in her backpack before attempting to leave without paying. The security officer detained the woman and a police officer arrested her for grand theft. The shoplifter had attempted to steal $659.99 worth of clothes and jewelry.

DISTRACTED DRIVING
9 a.m. — 8100 block of Midnight Pass Road. Vehicle Crash. A Florida Highway Patrol officer cited a man for careless driving after he struck a vehicle entering a roadway. The officer did not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

SOUNDING OFF
9:22 p.m. — 5200 block of Ocean Boulevard. Disturbance. Officers responded to a noise complaint at a restaurant near a residential area. The deputy observed the property and determined the music was not loud. After deputies notified him of the complaint the manager said he would turn the music down further.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE
4:51 p.m. — 300 block of Avenida De Paradisio. Disturbance. A man called deputies because he heard his neighbor yelling obscenities and hurling papers into the Grand Canal. The man said he heard the neighbor say something about “hamburgers” and saw photog albums floating in the canal. Officers arrested the man and recovered the man’s parents’ photo albums by using a pool skimmer.

NOT-SO-EASY RIDER
5:45 p.m. — 300 block of Avenida De Paradisio. No Valid Motorcycle License. Deputies arrested a man fleeing the scene of a civil disturbance report for not having the proper license for his motorcycle. The man told officers to “write it up” before they arrested him.

DINNER DISAPPEARANCE
7 p.m. — 100 block of Avenida Messina. Lost Property. A woman left her purse at a restaurant, and management informed her it was not where she last saw it. The woman had $300 cash and credit cards in the purse.

ALL BROKEN UP
9 a.m. — 700 block of Beach Road. Criminal Mischief. A property manager called to report a broken window at one of her properties. Deputies could not find any fingerprints at the property.

Jan. 29
GOTCHA!
2:09 a.m. — 100 block of Vista Hermosa Vircle. Arrest. A deputy arrested a man for failure to appear at an arraignment six months prior. The court date was for Driving Without a Valid License.

PECULIAR BEHAVIOR
2 p.m. — 100 block of Vista Hermosa Circle. Special Interest Person. Officers responded to a report of a fall and discovered the subject was acting oddly. The man had floppy eyelids and slurred his speech. Deputies could not determine what was wrong with the man and took him into protective custody.

ROCK AND ROLL
3:03 p.m. — 1900 block 12th Street. Assist Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. A bus driver pulled over because students on the bus were unruly and had been throwing rocks out the window. A passing driver who was hit with one of the rocks also called police. The driver said about four or five boys and girls on the bus had thrown the clay rocks at his car.
