April 15

LOT OF TROUBLE
6 p.m. — 0 block of North Washington Boulevard
Criminal Mischief: A woman went to the police to report damage to her vehicle. The woman said she parked her car in a parking lot overnight while she went to work, and later that day she discovered a large dent in the hood of her car. The woman said there have been recent problems with juveniles jumping on cars and throwing rocks at vehicles parked in that parking lot.

April 18

WRATH OF CANE
8:19 a.m. — 2200 block of Benjamin Franklin Drive
Dispute/Fight: A man got into an argument with an elderly male near the men’s room at the park. The man alerted police and said the other male swung a cane in the air during the argument. The other male had left the area prior to police arriving, and an officer checked the area for the man with negative results.

GIVING BACK
1:55 p.m. — 1900 block of Fruitville Road
Petit Theft — Shoplifting: The manager at a convenience store observed a man taking an umbrella and razor set and attempting to leave without paying for the items. The manager confronted the man outside the store, at which time the man returned the items taken and fled from the scene. An officer checked the area for the man but was unable to locate him.

April 19

IT’S A TRAP
6:44 p.m. — 100 block of John Ringling Boulevard
Suspicion General/Unknown: A man alerted authorities that he found a suspicious item along the water’s edge. The man described the item as metal, spherical and having algae growing on it. The man said he had no training or experience with explosive devices and just wanted to report the incident to be safe. An officer walked the shoreline and found an abandoned crab trap buoy that matched the description the man provided. The officer discovered no other suspicious items on the beach.

April 20

RESIDENT RESENTMENT
3:11 p.m. — 1000 block of Beneva Road
Trespassing: The manager of an apartment complex reported that a man came into the property’s office and began yelling and causing a disturbance. The manager said that the man is being evicted from another apartment complex her company owns, and that he had no business at this location but refused to leave. An officer issued the man a trespass warning. The man said that he understood and left the area without further incident.

CASH, CHECKED
11:47 p.m. — 0 block of South Lime Avenue
Suspicion General/Unknown: An officer responded to a call regarding a possible counterfeit $50 bill at a convenience store. The officer met with the man in possession of the bill at the store, at which point the money was examined and determined to be genuine.
