AUG. 24

Lost or missing

9:29 a.m. ­— 220 block of Sands Point Road

Searching for diamonds: A visitor from Atlanta reported she discovered she was missing her diamond earrings two hours after leaving a vacation stay. Security personnel at the inn said her floral arrangement and earrings were not found in the room. The earrings are insured for $3,500.

Adrift

4:21 p.m. – near Jewfish Key

Powerless: A Town of Longboat Key marine patrol hailed by the U.S. Coast Guard helped secure a boat adrift near the Intracoastal Waterway. The 24-year-old son/pilot was ticketed for no safe boating card. The 44-year-old dad/owner got his boat back at the Coquina Beach boat ramp.

False alarm

2:06 p.m. – 2100 block of Harbourside Drive

Nothing to see here: No key holder appeared and nothing appeared disturbed at the site of a residential alarm. All secure.

3:06 a.m. – 6400 block of Gulfside Road

Echo chamber: Answering the second residential alarm of the night proved as fruitless as the first call, according to the police report. All secure.

2-car collision

5:02 p.m. – 7000 block of GMD

No injuries but there will still be pain: A 29-year-old Bradenton woman was ticketed for violation of right-of-way after her 2010 Honda was in a collision with a 2016 Dodge SUV driven by a 57-year-old woman from Nevada. No injuries were reported.

Dog on beach

10:01 p.m. 2800 block of GMD

Not a service dog: A woman told an investigating officer she would take her dog away from the beach after being informed of the town ordinance against it. It was determined the dog was not a service animal as defined by the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Disturbance

7:42 a.m. – 7100 block of La Lenaire Drive

Party foul: A caller reported a boat played loud music from 1-4 a.m. after anchoring near her home. She was advised to call at the time of the noise so police could investigate. A marine patrol follow-up observed no violations.

Bus sign drop

2:35 a.m. – 4700 block of GMD

Laying down on the job: An officer found a bus stop sign knocked down in the bike lane. Officer placed the sign in the grass next to a beach access sign, which was still standing.

Suspicious incident

8:14 a.m. – 500 block of Tara Witt Drive

Mystery caller: A woman reported receiving an odd call on her answering machine from a trooper. She was advised to return the call. Mr. Cooper told her he had finished her air-conditioning repair.

Vessel Stop

11:08 a.m. – Gulf sector 1 off the key

Carded: A 20-year-old Sarasota man was issued a written warning after a vessel stop for operating a skiff within 300 feet of shore without a safe boating card.

ID theft

12:44 pm. – 800 block of Spanish Drive North

Maxed out: A woman reported $1,654 had been charged to a Macy’s credit card in her name. An unidentified suspect reported the card stolen and received a replacement from Macy’s. Macy’s is investigating.
