Jan. 16
In need of a ride
2:11 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Larceny From Business. A man entered a grocery store and returned to find his bicycle missing from the rack outside. Store officials were unable to immediately review the surveillance video. Police gave the man a ride home.

Strike out
5 p.m. — 100 block of N. Blvd. of the Presidents. Miscellaneous. A woman said that a driver began to back up behind her to parallel park and struck the left fender of her vehicle. There was no damage, but the woman wanted the incident documented.

Jan. 17
Tech tracking
2 p.m. — 400 block of St. Armands Circle.
Lost Property. A man left his iPad on a restaurant table. He was able to track its location to a McIntosh Road address, in Sarasota, using an app. Sheriff’s deputies got permission from the homeowner to search the McIntosh Road home but didn’t find the iPad. The homeowner’s son, who has past arrests for burglaries, had been in the area near the restaurant from which the iPad disappeared earlier in the evening.

Jan. 18
Curbside case
8:14 a.m. — 800 block of Longboat Club Road.
Lost/Missing Property. A man reported that two of his green trash cans that were on the curb for pickup were missing.

Jan. 20
Ghost rider
3:59 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Property Found. A man approached police to report an abandoned bicycle left on a grocery store bicycle rack. A customer service representative didn’t know who owned the bike. Police took it to the police station.

Out of gas
8:24 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Public Service. A couple ran out of gas while driving home from St. Armands Circle and started walking north in search of a gas station. They became concerned when they got to the south firehouse and didn’t find a gas station. Police told them that no gas stations were open on the island and drove the man to a Sarasota station to buy gas. They then brought him back to the vehicle.

Jan. 23
Ship wreck
7:52 a.m. — Lois Avenue and Linley Street.
Suspicious Circumstance. Police received an anonymous call about people in a small boat climbing aboard a disabled sailboat. Police found the disabled boat but not the climbers.

Open investigation
12:14 p.m. — 900 block of Spanish Drive N. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman and her husband returned home and found some of the drawers in their living room and an HVAC unit bifold door were pulled open and their bedroom dresser was pulled slightly away from the wall. The woman also reported that cable wires were pulled away from her closet and some of her clothes were moved. All windows and doors in the home had been locked. The woman planned to have the locks changed.
